Iso is a historic Italian brand that became known for producing scooters, motorbikes, midget cars and automobiles. The company, originally founded under the name Isothermos S.p.A. and later known as Iso Rivolta, was based in Bresso, near Milan.
Founded by Renzo Rivolta, the company initially began as a manufacturer of large thermal plants and refrigerators. Only later did Iso turn to the mobility sector, where it specialised in scooters and motorbikes.
In 1948, Iso introduced its first scooter, the 65cc Furetto. Despite its innovative approach, this model did not become a great success. An improved version followed in 1950: the 125cc Iso scooter with a double-piston engine. This model represented a major advance thanks to the telescopic fork at the front and the swing arm at the rear, which provided better riding characteristics.
In 1956, Iso made a leap to four-stroke technology with the introduction of the Iso 175 motorbike.
A year later, in 1957, an entirely redesigned scooter was presented, which bore many similarities to Vespa and Lambretta. The Iso Milano Diva featured a 150cc 2-stroke engine and was further improved in 1959 with a pillion saddle for extra comfort.
Iso's innovative designs and technical improvements made the brand a major player in the two-wheeler market of the 1950s and 1960s.
